# How do I create a new customer segment?

This article explains how to save a filtered customer list as a permanent segment. Follow these steps to turn filter conditions into reusable contact groups. This lets you access specific customer segments at any time.

## Before you start

Before creating a new customer segment, make sure you have:
- **Owner or Admin role in your Flownally workspace**.
- At least one existing contact profile in Flownally.
- Applied filter conditions ready to save.

## How to create a new customer segment

1. Log in to your Flownally workspace.
2. Go to the **Contacts** tab.

3. Filter the customers list as described in the [How to filter customers](/contacts/filter-customers) article.
4. Click **Save as segment**.

5. Provide the name for the segment and optionally its description. Check the filters listed under **Saved criteria**.
6. Click the **Save segment** button to save it.

> **Important:** Segments update automatically as new contacts match or stop matching the saved filter conditions.

## What happens after creating a new customer segment?

After a new customer segment is created, the segment name appears in your saved segments list above the contact list, and Flownally opens it right away. The system automatically updates the group members whenever contact properties change to match your rules.

## Troubleshooting

### Segment fails to save

This happens because the name field is empty. You need to type a valid name and click **Save segment** again.

### Contacts missing from segment

This occurs because some contact profiles lack the required tags. You must check the contact tags and ensure the filter rules match their details.
