How to create an entry point in a journey
How do I create an entry point in a journey?
This article explains how to set up a Start block for an automation workflow. Follow these steps to configure the exact trigger that kicks off your journey. This ensures your customer interactions begin automatically based on specific events.
In this article, you will learn how to
- Configure a Start block as the entry point for your automation.
- Select from six trigger options to launch your workflow.
- Resolve initial setup issues on your starting journeys.
Before you start
Before creating an entry point in a journey, make sure you have an opened journey to set up an entry point.
How to create an entry point in a journey
- Log in to your Flownally workspace.
- Go to the Journeys tab.
- Click an existing journey to edit it, or create a new one to open the editor automatically.
- Click the Start block to open its settings.
- In What starts it, you can choose from six options:
- New contact - a new contact appears in your list.
- Conversation started - a conversation is opened in the inbox.
- Conversation closed - a conversation is closed in the inbox.
- Tag changed - a tag is added or removed. Choose the tags in the Tags section.
- Field changed - a contact detail is updated. Choose the fields in the Fields section.
- Specific action happens - starts the journey after a specific event occurs, for example Booking created. Choose the events in the Actions section.
- Optionally, select Allow contacts to enter again in the Entering again section if the same person can go through this journey more than once.
Important: You also choose the trigger when you create a journey. You can change it later in the Start block.
What happens after creating an entry point in a journey?
After creating an entry point in a journey, your automation workflow gains a defined starting trigger. Once the journey is active, the system watches for your chosen customer action in the background and automatically adds matching contacts to the journey.
Troubleshooting
Start block options do not open
This is caused by a temporary browser glitch. You must refresh your browser window and click the block again to see the choices.
Journey can't be activated yet when trying to activate the journey
This is likely because only the starting point is configured, and the journey requires at least one more step to work. It can also mean that the Start block is missing details, such as the tags for Tag changed. Add more blocks to the journey, complete the Start block, and try activating it again.
